Based upon my own teaching experience, I arrived at the conclusion that most likely the "reading comprehension skill" might be rendered as the most challenging of the four basic language skills. Upon some contemplation, I got the view that this is mainly due to language learners lack of sufficient vocabulary and lexical items. This poverty of lexical items drives them to perform poorly on exams as the TOEFL, the IELTS, the MCHC, etc. Those students taking part in BA, BS, MA, and MS entrance exams also suffer from this insufficiency. Hence, a wide range of active and passive vocabulary seems to be the cornerstone of English mastery. It functions as the building blocks of reading comprehension. Without it, the writing ability will also have nothing to say. Even if language learners have a mastery of the grammar and syntax, the phonetic system, the logographic system, and the extra linguistic system of the foreign or second language, they will limp in reading comprehension and speaking without an adequate mastery of a sufficient domain of vocabulary. The present book is designed to intentionally and purposefully fulfill this requirement via putting roots and derivations in native contexts in the form of kernel sentences. The author of the book hopes that this little attempt will be of great help to the interested parties. It can be used as the main teaching source of vocabulary expansion courses
